Understanding Load Ratings for Selectlok Drawer Slides
Load ratings for drawer slides, such as 45kg, 125kg, and 227kg, can be confusing. To help clarify, here's an explanation of how to properly distribute weight on Selectlok Drawer Slides.
Example: 227kg Load RatingThe 227kg rating on our drawer slides refers to the static weight the drawer is designed to support when it is in the fully open position. It's important to note that the combined weight of both the load and the drawer itself (including the materials used to construct it) factors into the total 227kg load capacity.
Selectlok does not rate our drawers for specific weight loads at certain positions during opening or closing, nor do we specify percentages of the rated 227kg that can be supported at different intervals along the drawer's length. For example, we do not state that the drawer will support only 5kg at the front when fully extended, and 200kg at the back where the slide first begins to extend. The reason for this is that there are too many variables to account for in these calculations, making such specifications difficult to guarantee.
Best Practices for Load DistributionThat said, Selectlok strongly recommends being strategic about how you distribute the weight within your drawer. Always ensure that the load is secure and does not shift or roll around, as this can apply additional external forces to the drawer and locking mechanisms, potentially affecting their performance.
For general guidance, a drawer in the fully open position is designed to support an evenly distributed load of up to 227kg.
Important Notes (NB):- Even Distribution: We always recommend that weight be evenly distributed throughout the drawer's storage area. If it’s necessary to concentrate weight in a specific section, it should be placed closer to the back of the drawer, where the slide system provides the most structural support.
- Extended Open Positions: If the drawer will be left fully loaded in the open position for extended periods (hours or days), supporting a full 227kg load, we cannot guarantee that the drawer will remain unaffected over time. The drawer slides are designed to handle these loads intermittently—such as during normal operations where the drawer is regularly opened and closed to access the stored items. Continuous weight-bearing over long periods could potentially cause damage or impact the drawer's performance.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure optimal performance and longevity for your Selectlok Drawer Slides.
